Good Hotel Guide Review
Unparalleled fell views are found at this family-friendly spot on the lower slopes of Skiddaw. The early Victorian hotel, recently redesigned, has been owned by the Fernandez family for 37 years, and is co-owned with their daughter and son-in-law, Lucy and David Lake. Many of the modern bedrooms overlook the ‘well-maintained’ gardens; most also take in the ‘stunning scenery’ of the fells. Browse books and magazines, or play a board game in the spacious fire-warmed lounge. Dine inside or out: in the Orangery or other intimate space, or under a covered area in the garden. Dinners are ‘excellent’. ‘Dishes are generally elaborate, with many clever combinations beautifully presented.’ Walks from the door.
