Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Glorious fell views’, ‘excellent food’ and ‘capable, obliging staff’ are found at this family-friendly spot on the lower slopes of Skiddaw. The early Victorian hotel has been owned by the Fernandez family, now co-owners with the Lake family, for 25 years. The ‘stunning scenery’ can be enjoyed from most of the ‘well-equipped’ bedrooms; all overlook the lovely landscaped gardens, and have contemporary bathrooms with good toiletries. The lounge has a warming fire; the spa and indoor swimming pool is a blessing after a day’s sightseeing or mountain hike. There are ‘excellent’ British dishes, ‘divine desserts’ and ‘whatever the children fancy’. Breakfast has no buffet, but ‘plenty of choice’. Many walks from the door.
