Good Hotel Guide Review
Glorious fell views’, ‘excellent food’ and ‘capable, obliging staff’ are found at this family-friendly spot at the foot of Skiddaw. The early Victorian hotel has been owned by the Fernandez family, now co-owners with the Lake family, for 25 years. The ‘stunning scenery’ can be enjoyed from most of the ‘well-equipped’ bedrooms; all overlook the landscaped gardens, and have contemporary bathrooms with good toiletries. The lounge has a warming fire; the indoor swimming pool suits those unwilling to brave nearby Derwent Water. There are ‘excellent’ British dishes, ‘divine desserts’ and ‘whatever the children fancy’. Breakfast has no buffet, but ‘plenty of choice’. Many walks from the door.
