Good Hotel Guide Review
Within a 20-minute drive of the city centre, this modern spa hotel occupies a 19th-century water mill in large, landscaped gardens. Most of the contemporary bedrooms (some with a private patio) are in converted barns across the courtyard; snugger rooms are in the original mill building, with views over the grounds or river. Some rooms can accommodate an extra bed for a child. In the garden-facing Mill House restaurant, or on the patio in good weather, locally sourced ingredients are put to good use in such modern British and European dishes as soy-glazed chicken, sautéed curly kale, roast carrots, fondant potato. Lighter meals and sandwiches are available all day in the lounge/bar – plus a selection of more than 50 malt whiskies to round off the evening. 5 miles NE of city centre, off the A14; handy for the airport.
