Good Hotel Guide Review

Locals flock to this ‘attractive’, ‘well-run’ and well-liked pub/restaurant-with-rooms, adjacent to Bisley, for coffee and a chat in the morning – when they’re not swapping excess allotment produce for wine and real ales, that is. ‘We were impressed by the professionalism and genuine friendliness of the staff,’ Guide readers said in 2016. After 15 years as publicans, in spring 2015, ‘hands-on’ owners Gerry and Ann Price added 12 bedrooms; each is ‘bright and modern without being trendy’. ‘While the pub stands on a busy road, the rooms are well set back on a courtyard garden. We were not bothered by traffic noise,’ said Guide inspectors, who liked their ‘spacious, well-appointed’ room. Other guests were similarly pleased: ‘We had a very comfortable bed; the bathroom, practically designed, had an excellent shower.’ At dinner, find out why the locals gather. Served in the bar and restaurant, chef Mark Baines’s ‘excellent’ modern cooking (perhaps crispy buttermilk pheasant, sweet potato, house slaw) is accompanied by an ‘unusual’ wine list. Awake to ‘a large choice’ of cooked dishes, including an ‘excellent’ kedgeree. (John Saul, Edward Mirzoeff, and others)

Guest comments

'We were impressed with the high standard of the accommodation. Lovely pub with very nice people having a drink. Restaurant was top notch. Had two dinners there, one with a large crowd of my relatives. Jerry, the owner, was especially helpful in making sure we got great service. Fast drive to Heathrow airport when the time came for us to depart - it's so close and so delightful. ' - SW - July, 2017
'We greatly enjoyed our stay. The inn could be likened to an upmarket motel attached to a bar/restaurant within very easy reach of the M3. Bedrooms are well furnished. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into the selection of fittings by the “hands on” proprietors. Noise did not trouble us, either from the road or the adjacent outside seating/boules area. The menu does not change daily but was long enough for plenty of choice during our stay. Breakfasts and dinners were excellent, and both so popular with locals, that even with a DB&B booking you have to be careful to ensure that you have a table booked for dinner. ' - John Bush - June, 2017
'We were impressed with the professionalism and genuine friendliness of all the staff. It was good that the full menu was available in both the bar and the restaurant - and the food (dinner and breakfast) was excellent. Our room was well designed. The bed was very comfortable, the shower (no bath) was excellent - the only feature of our room we didn't like was the shallow wash basin. The road was very busy (though the soundproofing was good). ' - John Saul - February, 2016
