Good Hotel Guide Review
Just beyond Hugh Town, this ‘consistently good’ hotel is minutes from two sandy beaches, and across from the Victorian church that shares its name. ‘Very well run’ by the ‘knowledgeable, helpful’ manager Roger Page, it has ‘unfailingly friendly, efficient’ staff. A wide staircase leads to bright, comfortable bedrooms with a large bed, luxury toiletries, home-made biscuits on a well-stocked tray; fresh milk, delivered daily in an insulated flask. Most rooms overlook the garden’s sub-tropical plants and palm trees; one has spectacular views over the harbour to neighbouring islands. Chef Ben Hingston’s ‘delicious’ dishes exploit fresh local seafood, meat from the owners’ rare breeds farm. Breakfast brings freshly squeezed juice, smoked Devon trout with scrambled eggs.
