Good Hotel Guide Review
In the centre of a ‘pleasant’ town, famous for its Anglo-Saxon crosses, this revitalised 19th-century inn with an ‘informal atmosphere’ is a popular gathering point. The handsome building, refurbished by the Pear family, has hunting lodge elements inside: deep leather armchairs beside open fires; muted plaids and antler motifs throughout. On the second floor, soft-toned, well-equipped bedrooms have oak beams and ‘enjoyably quirky features’. Home-made gastropub dishes, steaks, and vegan menus are served by ‘a very professional, cheerful young crew’ in the well-supplied bar, a spacious, modern restaurant or on a covered terrace. Easy access from the M6; Tatton Park (NT) is close.
