Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Such a peaceful, quiet place to stay. The log fire was lit ready for our arrival.’ A new endorsement this year for ‘perfect hosts’ David and Louise Farrance’s wisteria-festooned B&B. ‘They are terrific hosts,’ agrees a returning Guide regular in 2018, ‘continually seeking to improve the property.’ Dating from around 1436, the traditional longhouse has been altered over the centuries, but it has retained its character, beams and 17th-century panelling. Returning guests are ‘treated like friends’, new arrivals plied with tea and home-made cake. The Orchard Suite has two bedrooms and a family bathroom with roll-top bath and corner shower. The Snug, over two floors, has a separate entrance, a lounge with log fire, an espresso machine and fridge. At night, plates, cutlery and glasses can be supplied for a take-away meal, but the local gastropub is recommended. A ‘great choice’ at breakfast includes summer tomatoes from the greenhouse, and award-winning pork-and-marmalade sausages, eggs laid by the Frog Street hens. It is cooked on the Aga and served at a communal table. ‘I enjoyed talking to other guests. A perfect break away.’ (Tracey Bowden, Michael Gwinnell)
