Good Hotel Guide Review
Just perfect,’ say readers this year of Kathryn and Stuart Dobson’s large Victorian manor house in the heart of Weardale. ‘The owners made us welcome the moment we arrived.’ Decorated in fine style, its red front door opens on to chandelier-lit rooms filled with antique furniture and displays of fresh flowers. In the sitting room, a log-burner; comfy sofas under huge windows gazing across sheep-speckled hillsides. All the traditional ‘high standard’ country-house bedrooms have exposed beams and beautiful views; a splendid bathroom with underfloor heating; some have a four-poster or half-tester bed. The orangery is an inviting dining spot any time; pre-booking may be necessary for ‘superb’ evening meals including minted lamb shank, seasonal vegetables, creamy mash.
