Good Hotel Guide Review
High on a cliff-top, overlooking Penarth Pier and the Bristol Channel, a hotel and spa in a neatly designed garden with water channels, gravel and lawns; seating offers views over the sea. The house, built in 1926, is contemporary inside. Cocktails and mocktails are dispensed from a sleek, curved bar under a feature chandelier; the snug, a homely alternative, has a flickering open fire. In the coastal-hued dining room (candlelit at night), a steak menu and seasonal dishes, perhaps fillet of cod, fresh turmeric, clams, sweetcorn, samphire; fresh produce from the kitchen garden. Understated bedrooms have ‘every luxury’ (soft bathrobes, home-baked Welsh cakes, teas and cafetière coffee); many have a sea view. The spa is a soothing space.
