Good Hotel Guide Review
Panoramic views sweep over the city and the Severn estuary from this dog-friendly hotel in the rolling hills just north of the city centre. A tiered fountain at the entrance adds country house appeal to the creeper-covered, Grade II listed manor house; stone steps lead to elegant rooms that look out on to lush greenery. Afternoon tea may be taken in the lounges; Welsh ingredient-focused dishes in the restaurant might include Brecon gin-cured gravlax, or lamb shank, roasted garlic and pea risotto. Individually decorated with lively patterns and a flair for colour, modern bedrooms are supplied with ethically produced toiletries. Part of the Town & Country Collective; see also The Bear, Cowbridge, and The West House, Llantwit Major (Shortlist entries).
