Good Hotel Guide Review
Barbara and Simon Andersen ‘get almost everything right’ at their small hotel in a market town in the Wye valley, a friendly, affordable base for exploring the Forest of Dean. Dating back to the 1790s, the former home of pioneering metallurgist David Mushet has been extended and modernised. Immaculate bedrooms have pine furniture, armchairs, ‘good lighting’, tea, coffee and biscuits; bathrooms have a power shower, good-quality toiletries. The bar provides complimentary coffee refills. The restaurant’s wide-ranging options include fish and seafood dishes such as salmon, leek, spinach and mascarpone parcel; slow-cooked meats. ‘Both our dinners were delicious.’ Breakfast brings smoked haddock; eggs all ways; a Forest House full English.
