Good Hotel Guide Review
Lesley Hornsby’s personably run B&B, in a tall Victorian house, gazes across the estuary to the Lakeland fells – and the hostess provides binoculars to take it all in. The bay window of the bright, art-hung sitting room is a tranquil spot to savour the view, along with a tipple from the honesty bar. On the first and second floors, bedrooms and suites decorated in calming hues provide homely comforts: biscuits, posh teas, freshly ground coffee; milk in the mini-fridge; spoiling toiletries. Breakfast, fresh and local, is a feast: home-made granola, dry-cured back bacon, Cumberland sausage; Buck’s Fizz on Sundays. A suntrap in the afternoon and evening, the compact terrace affords a wide panorama over the water.
