Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Marvellous stay.’ The Read family’s ‘wonderfully old-fashioned’ hotel draws back regular guests for the ‘wonderful food and very friendly staff’. The comfortably furnished Victorian house has well-appointed rooms, ‘equally good’ bathrooms. Morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the lounges which have open fires and views of the bay, or in the ‘well-tended’ garden. Andrew Read and Mark Johnston’s ‘beautifully presented’ dishes might include roast loin of lamb, fondant potato, braised barley, red cabbage, caramelised parsnips, rosemary jus; perhaps raspberry Cranachan, fresh raspberries, toasted oats, honey, whipped cream and whisky to follow. In the morning, an ‘excellent’, innovative breakfast is served at table.
