Good Hotel Guide Review
‘A big hit’ with returning guests, the Read family’s ‘wonderfully old-fashioned’ hotel is praised for its ‘superb service, excellent food and very friendly staff’. The comfortably furnished Victorian house has well-appointed bedrooms, ‘equally good’ bathrooms. Morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the lounges, which have open fires and views of the bay, or in the ‘well-tended’ garden. At dinner, Andrew Read and Mark Johnston’s ‘beautifully presented’ dishes might include pork tenderloin, roast cauliflower, rösti potato; perhaps warm orange cake with marmalade ice cream to follow. Served on linen-dressed tables, varied breakfasts bring banana-and-berry pancakes, smoked haddock or Spanish-style eggs.
