Good Hotel Guide Review
Lena and Richard MacLennan’s modest guest house on the Isle of Harris stands on a working croft by Borve’s golden sand beach, with ‘superb views’ over the sound of Taransay. This is a ‘lovely, comfortable’ place in rugged surroundings: simply furnished, wood-floored bedrooms have blankets of Harris tweed; the peat fire-warmed sitting room has shelves of books to borrow. After a day of hill walking, golfing, cycling, beachcombing or kiting, ease tired muscles in the sauna. ‘Exceptionally good, well-presented’ home-cooked dinners of locally sourced produce (Uist scallops, Stornoway black pudding) are served by candlelight in the dining room overlooking the sea. Substantial Scottish breakfasts. 10 mins’ drive from Tarbert ferry terminal.
