Good Hotel Guide Review
The views stretch across Oban Bay from Mark and Suzanne McPhillips’s hillside B&B. The thoughtfully restored baronial mansion retains stained-glass windows, moulded ceilings and a fine wooden staircase; understated furnishings and contemporary art keep things fresh. Chic, uncluttered bedrooms, each with a spacious bathroom, have all the necessities: fluffy bathrobes and Scottish toiletries, tea-making facilities, wine glasses and a corkscrew. Most rooms look towards the water. Breakfast in the turreted dining room may bring raspberry cranachan or a cheesy spinach frittata. Days out are easy – just ask the obliging hosts for an itinerary of their favourite trips around the Inner Hebrides. The town centre, harbour and seafood restaurants are within walking distance.
