Good Hotel Guide Review
Above Sandown Bay, Mike and Carole Hailston’s ‘delightfully relaxing’ island B&B enjoys a ‘lovely’ setting: it stands within the perimeter of public gardens, with steps leading down to the seafront. There’s plenty of space inside the 19th-century gentleman’s residence, where the bar and homely sitting rooms sport rich hues, period furnishings and leaded windows. Some of the traditionally styled bedrooms offer glimpses of the sea through leafy trees; one has a four-poster bed; another, a window seat perfect for looking over the Chine. A secluded private garden surrounds the house. The Hailstons are founts of Isle of Wight information, and can point out the easy walk to the shops and restaurants in Old Shanklin.
