Good Hotel Guide Review
Such excellent attention to detail.’ Approached through ‘well-maintained grounds’, entered under a balustraded minstrel’s gallery, the Wiser family’s ‘superb’ Georgian manor is a ‘very grand’ affair. Grand but not stuffy. The ‘friendly staff’ create a ‘relaxing experience’. Each spacious, individually decorated bedroom has good technology (iPod docking station, DVD-player), and views over formal gardens or parkland. Cocktails are sipped in the clubby lounge, or the ‘lovely’ Edwardian bar, with ‘lots of wood panelling, and stained glass’. The bar offers lighter bites, perhaps fish and chips; Scotch eggs and tomato salad, while, in the award-winning restaurant, chef Ryan Shilton cooks estate-reared venison and lamb, alongside produce from the Victorian walled garden and orchard.
