Good Hotel Guide Review
With a leafy garden overlooking the common, Robert and Sally Hogben’s nattily refurbished Georgian building is an appealing spot for an alfresco rendezvous. Families, dog-owners and real ale connoisseurs gather at picnic tables under parasols, while cooler months signal a retreat to the cosy bar’s log fire and remarkable snug, with leather sofas in a 6th-century sandstone cave. On two floors, the informal restaurant offers a broad, seasonally changing menu of sharing platters, healthy options and classic pub dishes. At the top, six uniquely decorated bedrooms have harmonious hues, antiques, plantation shutters and colourful cushions patterned with wildlife. Various extras include an in-room roll-top bath, views of the common or Edgcumbe rocks.
