Good Hotel Guide Review
Ideally placed for exploring the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, Paul Spencer’s laid-back inn sprawls comfortably on the road to Lupton. The 18th-century hostelry has a modern rustic look: wide wooden tables and mismatched chairs, a wood-burning stove, sheepskin-covered bar stools under oak beams. Diners come for well-considered British cooking, with good vegetarian options such as roasted squash, sage and goat’s cheese pie. Andy Hoines has returned as acting head chef. Graceful country bedrooms (some snug) have pale furniture, perhaps a brass bed, squashy armchairs, a vast beamed bathroom with slipper bath. Many rooms have glorious views over Farleton Knott. Rooms away from the road are quietest.
