Good Hotel Guide Review
Ideally placed for exploring the Lake District and the Yorshire dales, Paul Spencer’s laid-back inn sprawls comfortably on the road to Lupton. The 18th-century hostelry has been refurbished with a modern rustic look: wide wooden tables and mismatched chairs, a wood-burning stove, sheepskin-covered bar stools under oak beams. Diners come for well-considered British cooking, with good vegetarian options such as hay-baked celeriac, toasted quinoa, roasted baby onions, onion jus. Graceful country bedrooms (some snug) have pale furniture, perhaps a brass bed, squashy armchairs, a vast beamed bathroom with slipper bath. Many rooms have glorious views over Farleton Knott. Rooms away from the road are quietest.
