Good Hotel Guide Review
A frisbee fling from the waterfront, Philippa McKnight and David Hoyes’s intimate B&B is a soothing place to be beside the seaside. Avid art collectors, the owners’ use of striking colours, vintage furnishings and arty flourishes complement the house’s Victorian stained-glass panels and fireplaces. There’s a lush garden, full of unusual plants; an airy sitting room with plenty of books. Spacious bedrooms in contemporary hues, some with painted floorboards, have a king-size bed and thoughtful extras (refreshments, bathrobes, eco-friendly toiletries); one has an antique chandelier, hooks reclaimed from the Savoy’s cloakroom in London. Breakfasts keep food -miles low, creativity high: perhaps Mexican tortillas with hot salsa and fried eggs.
