Good Hotel Guide Review
At the end of a twisty, country lane and standing high above woodland close to Dartmoor, this grand country house in the Arts and Crafts style, is luxurious but surprisingly intimate. ‘First-rate’ staff and a ‘hands-on’ General Manager are ‘friendly and extremely nice’. Public rooms are rich with original wood panelling, leaded windows, magnificent staircase and ’nice quiet corners’. Bedrooms have antiques, paintings, fresh flowers and modern bathrooms. ‘Exquisite’ meals offer ‘interesting’ dishes such as turbot with mixed squash, pumpkin seeds, caviar and seaweed. Enjoy walks, tennis, croquet – and afternoon tea on the terrace. (Relais & Châteaux, part of Brownsword hotels, see The Bath Priory, Bath)
