Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Caring, friendly’ hosts Penny and Kit Noble run their homely guest house in a former sea captain’s home, in a ‘stunning location’ overlooking the Dart estuary. ‘Every bedroom looks down to the town, Dartmouth Castle and the river,’ say appreciative guests on their ‘third wonderful visit’. While away the day on the terrace, watching the Squib boats or paddle steamer on the water; in cool weather, an open fire makes the sitting room a cosy retreat. Four nights a week, Kit Noble cooks an ‘excellent’ three- or four-course dinner using local produce and home-grown vegetables (guests are asked in advance about likes and dislikes). Bring your own drinks – the hosts are happy to provide nibbles for aperitifs. Afterwards, retire to your spacious, individually decorated bedroom before waking to a ‘great’ breakfast: freshly squeezed juices; smoked fish; home-made muesli, jams, bread and fruit compotes. Heading out for the day? Ask for a picnic lunch, ideal for walks on the Coastal Path nearby. The Nobles are enthusiastic hosts and readily advise on car-free itineraries: boat trips, fishing excursions, river walks, adventures in secret coves. (CA)
