Good Hotel Guide Review
A hotel with wit and character, this boutique pick is on a cobbled side street steps from the city’s sights and shops. A trove of quirky touches (a stag-head wall hook, a rotary telephone) leads the way to cheerfully appointed bedrooms on the three upper floors. There’s no lift, but friendly staff are on hand to help with luggage. Some rooms may be snug, but all are well equipped with bottled water, tea- and coffee-making facilities, oversized towels; a power shower. The coffee lounge has light meals and hot drinks; Bath ales are pulled and cocktails mixed in the bar. Escape the hustle by booking the private hot tub (extra charge) in the secluded courtyard. At breakfast, there are leaf teas and freshly squeezed orange juice; hot dishes include sausage and bacon butties and a stack of buttermilk pancakes.
