Good Hotel Guide Review
The romantic ideals of the Arts and Crafts movement colour this restored Victorian terraced house, which is enthusiastically run as a B&B by Brisbane natives Susan and Paul Johnson. The hostess, an artist and a descendant of John Ruskin, has painted decorative friezes in the elegant, high-ceilinged bedrooms; William Morris fabrics adorn eye-catching oversized headboards. Down stone steps, a separate entrance leads to two rooms (one with a private garden) that share a lounge and a kitchen. Served on linen-dressed tables, breakfast includes home-baked bread and Aussie pikelets. The hosts have a wealth of local information; buses and taxis easily connect the conservation neighbourhood to the city centre.
