Good Hotel Guide Review
In a three-storey Victorian house a mile from the city centre, Ross Birnie’s ‘lovely’ B&B has ‘all the modern features one needs when away from home’. Smart, rather masculine, bedrooms have handcrafted mahogany furniture, quality linen, high-end toiletries and fresh coffee for the cafetière; a shower in the bathroom. A family ‘observatory’ with views towards Arthur’s Seat is provided with a telescope. Downstairs, original stained-glass windows, leather sofas and heavy drapes make the panelled lounge a soothing place to relax. Help yourself to a drink from the honesty bar or browse a rare tome from the library shelves (some works date back to the 1740s); pit your skills on the oversized ConnectFour. ‘Fabulous’, hearty breakfasts and daily specials are served in the morning. Buses to the centre stop frequently just outside.
