Good Hotel Guide Review
Scandinavian flair and seaside charm are found at this much-praised restaurant-with-rooms on a small bay just west of Cowes. It is owned by chef/patron Ben Cooke and his wife, Holly, ‘a likeable pair’. The glass-fronted dining room takes in the spread of the Solent – a fitting setting for the modern dishes that use heaps of Isle of Wight produce. Typical offerings: Bembridge Ledge crab cakes, crab bisque, lemon mayonnaise; chargrilled Isle of Wight sirloin steak, garlic local mushrooms, watercress. Sharing menus, served family style, are just right for large groups. Coastal-themed bedrooms (stripes, scrubbed wood) are in a separate wing, with their own entrance; binoculars are provided to enjoy the view. Lots of choice at breakfast: ‘super’ juices, home-made marmalade, home-cured gravadlax, eggs all ways.
