Good Hotel Guide Review
In large grounds on the banks of the Cuckmere river, this extensively enlarged old farmhouse is a fine base for country walks and cream teas. Bedrooms vary in size, from compact doubles to larger rooms with expansive views over ‘beautifully cared-for’ gardens. Refurbishment continues: more bedrooms received a welcome rejuvenation (eye-catching wallpapers, more modern furnishings) this year. In good weather, take afternoon tea on the terrace; when the temperature dips, retreat to a spot by the log fire in the bar. Dinner brings a ‘well-balanced’ menu of modern British dishes, in either the refined restaurant (Thurs–Sat) or the cosy bar (Sun–Wed). At breakfast: ‘enormous’ portions of ‘good traditional stuff’.
