Good Hotel Guide Review
Brightening up the coastline, this well-refurbished Georgian hotel owned by the Adnams brewing group imports London cool to timeless Southwold. The drawing room gathers green velvet sofas around a log fire, 18th-century portraits, theatrical wallpaper; a buzzy setting for a refreshing G&T (using Adnam’s own gin). Rooms spill between the main hotel and a garden annexe overlooking the lighthouse. In each a breezy seaside palette, crisp bedlinen on the bed, Bose speakers, coffee pod machine, complimentary gin. Rory Whelan’s innovative British dishes are served in the Still restaurant: pan-fried sea bass, smoked almond; Tandoori-style roasted cauliflower. Breakfast is a winner, from fresh pastries to a full English with farm-fresh eggs.
