Good Hotel Guide Review
Landscaped grounds lead down to Bala Lake from Katrina Le Saux’s Victorian house in Snowdonia national park, with a vista of mountains in the blue distance. The views come inside too – B&B accommodation is in comfortable, traditionally styled bedrooms, all with an outlook on the lake. Each room has its own character: Berwyn and Arenig have an antique four-poster bed; in Aran, steep in a freestanding bath by the window. Thoughtful touches are everywhere: fresh flowers and home-baked biscuits; books and glossy magazines; an electric blanket on the bed; underfloor heating in the bathroom. When the sun shines, bask on the terrace; in the cooler months, a log fire burns in the sitting room – good accompaniment for a glass of something from the honesty bar. In the morning, a hearty breakfast on fine china includes home-made bread and preserves, and honey from the hosts’ bees. There are ‘lovely walks in the area’ (and drying facilities on site), but make it back in time to watch the sun set over the Arenig mountain.
