Good Hotel Guide Review
Overlooking Buckingham Palace from the fifth floor of a historic building, this discreet luxury hotel (Red Carnation group) has an air of decadent exclusivity. Mahogany panelling, a personal butler and a generous invitation to ‘plunder the pantry’ create a clubby atmosphere. Guests fill in a questionnaire before their arrival to ensure that their personal specifications (preferred pillows, desire for a humidifier or a yoga mat) are met in the distinctive, black-and-white bedrooms. Asked for or not, rooms have plenty of thoughtful extras – home-made treats and season-specific bathrobes among them. At lunch or dinner, visit sister hotel The Rubens at the Palace, which shares the building. Sleep in on Sunday: breakfast, served until 1 pm, will wait. Apples, rusks and bottles of water send guests on their way again. (Underground: Victoria)
