Good Hotel Guide Review
Within walking distance of Dublin’s many attractions, this 19th-century schoolhouse by the Grand Canal is today a hotel with a restaurant and a ‘very jolly’ bar. The ‘interesting’ Victorian building flaunts distinctive turrets and high chimneys; an original wooden staircase, panelled walls and a stone fireplace within. Period-style bedrooms (some in the basement) are decorated with William Morris patterns; the best rooms have canal or garden views, or access to the lawn. Pub classics and bistro dishes (seafood chowder; sage and onion chicken en croûte) are served all day under a vaulted ceiling in the restaurant and lively bar, or alfresco on the terrace. The hotel is in tree-lined Ballsbridge; Aviva Stadium is 15 minutes’ walk away.
